The Continuous Environmental Monitoring Program maintains a network of water quality stations in the San Francisco Estuary & Delta. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team in collecting water quality data and conducting rigorous, high-quality scientific studies in collaboration with numerous stakeholders to inform restoration, conservation, and management of the Delta. The incumbent is responsible for preparing and organizing field sampling equipment for its station network, assisting in the collection, preservation, and processing of biological, chemical, and physical field samples, preforming data entry and QA/QC, and contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations.

Incumbent must be able to meet the demands of field sampling in varying conditions. The incumbent must have the ability to conduct field work for long hours under a variety of climatic conditions and in rugged terrain.
Because of working around the water and/or in boats, the incumbent must be able to swim 50 yards and stay afloat at least 10 minutes.
Because over-the-side sampling equipment being retrieved can be heavy and bulky, incumbent must be able to move and transport objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license due to travel to various project sites to conduct field sampling.
Must be able to function without incapacitation due to seasickness.
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
We are seeking candidates who have experience working with computers, specifically with Microsoft Office suite and scientific computing software, and some knowledge of water quality, ecology, biogeochemistry, and statistics. It is desirable for the candidate to have experience using field instrumentation and/or equipment to collect and process water quality and biological samples as well as technical experience in laboratory work. Experience following protocols, performing data analysis and QA/QC, and communicating scientific results or information is also desirable. The candidate must have the ability to work in remote and/or rugged conditions, possess organizational skills and attention to detail, and be able to work both independently and cooperatively with others.
